Where are you at in your adventure? Have you slowed down? Have you stopped? Are you steaming full ahead? Are you saying, “What adventure?”
Our lives are an adventure or they are supposed to be. God has a life for us that should make us thrilled to be alive. It is a life that is abundant and full and will make us wake up every morning loving the fact that we have another day.
Personally I am not always in that place. I can find myself in the humdrum of normality. This isn’t where God wants me to be and He loves to woo me back into that place of excitement.
Over the years I have made excuses about why I am not even going to consider the life of adventure He has for me. Many reasons seem valid, I have a job, I have a mortgage, I have a family. If God is putting an adventure on your heart then He is big enough to deal with these reasons/excuses for not going after the adventure that is before you.
Do we miss out because we are not willing to say yes to God?
I am reading the book ‘Dirty Glory’ by Pete Greig at the moment. It’s full of inspiring stories where God told people to move or give up jobs and go pioneer the work of 24/7 prayer. To some He sent to the strangest places in the world, whilst giving up their safety, their jobs, houses, even having travel with a wife who needed treatment for what seemed an “incurable” condition. In each of these stories God not only provides but He moves, He extends the kingdom and blesses those who said yes beyond any blessing they had ever experienced before. They just said yes.
Don’t get me wrong, they still prayed and prayed and asked for confirmation, but they said yes.
Recently I am learning the power there is in forgiveness and in repentance. If I let unforgiveness stay in my heart, I’m binding myself up and that can stop everything with my walk with God. I’d go as far as to say that sometimes God will wait for us to deal with the unforgiveness until moving along with you to the next thing He has for you.
This can mean your ministry stalls, this can mean your joy stalls, this can mean that you can get stuck (maybe even for decades) without moving on with your adventure. All that time, the life that God promises looks further and further away in the distance.
If God’s promises to you seem far, far away, humble yourself, ask the Holy Spirit to tell you where you are holding unforgiveness in your heart and wait. I guarantee that your adventures, the words that have been spoken over your life are worth waiting for in this time. In this time you can deal with these issues together with God.
I am in Proverbs a lot at the moment and it says a lot about being humble. It also says a lot about being proud.
Proverbs talks about the humble getting favour (Pro 3:34), wisdom (Pro 11:2), Honour (Pro 15:33 and 18:12), Riches, honour and life (Pro 22:4) etc etc.
When we forgive we often have to swallow our pride, especially when we need to repent because of our unforgiveness. We all know about what repentance gives us.
So Humble yourself. Repent where you need to. Listen to God’s call and ask Him for the strength to do what He is asking you to do. He provides enough. He doesn’t let those who trust in Him be put to shame.
God’s way is the perfect way for us.
Go get your adventure!
