“Behold I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples … a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it”Zechariah 12:2-3“In Jerusalem shall My name be forever” 2 Chronicles 33:4
Jerusalem was declared the capital of Israel by the USA on 6th Dec 2017 and plans to move its Embassy there. This has provoked outraged rhetoric and a negative UN vote and could prove a catalyst for war. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait support the decision. Guatemala, Honduras and Panama will also move their Embassies. Most of Europe is against but Czech Rep and Paraguay are supportive. Pray for clear blessing on supportive nations and for others to follow.
Peace negotiations between Israel and the PA now seem unlikely. Since Trump’s declaration, Abbas has repeatedly stated that the US is no longer acceptable to his regime as the primary Middle East peace mediator. However there is no other negotiator possible. Praise for an end to the “peace process” and pray for the PA’s true colours to show.
UN funding and support The USA have said that their UN 2018-2019 budget would be slashed by over $285 million. The US has also decided to cut its aid to UNRWA by a third. Both the USA and Israel have withdrawn from UNESCO due to continuing anti-Israel bias. This will go into effect at end of 2018. They will remain observer states. Praise God for answers to prayer and continue to pray for the UN to face the truth and change.
Government A Law has been passed preventing the future division of Jerusalem whereby a majority of 80 MKs would be needed. The PA sees this as a declaration of war. Netanyahu’s Likud Party has voted unanimously to annex Judea and Samaria and remove all restrictions on new construction. Praise for these decisions and pray for Netanyahu and his government to be protected, have God’s wisdom and be in unity.
Security and Defence Shin Bet has thwarted over 400 terror attacks in 2017 but they warn that “the period of quiet is misleading; Hamas is hard at work trying to execute terrorist attacks.” Rockets continue to be sent from Gaza but with no casualties. In response the IDF has hit terror infrastructures underground. Pray for protection and for the security and defence bodies to be alert and guided by the Lord.
New terror alliance Hezbollah, Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other groups are prepared to put aside differences for a new “intifada” and would unite in the event of a large-scale war to “liberate Jerusalem”. Pray for this alliance to be held back and thwarted according to God’s plan, purpose and timing.
Iran Protests across the country are rising against this theocratic Islamic republic which is now Israel’s worst enemy. The main reasons are economic and military. The government is playing it down and blaming Israel! The US, Israel and Saudi Arabia voice support for the protests but not Europe. Iran’s influence in Syria is expanding and their ultimate declared goal is to destroy Israel. Pray for the fall of the present Iranian regime.
The UK is currently not pro-Israel. Pray we will become a sheep nation and not a goat nation (Matthew 25:31-46)
Good News items On 28 Dec thousands prayed for rain at the Western Wall. Some rain and snow have fallen which is an answer to prayer – but more needed so keep on praying. A new synagogue has opened under Temple Mount. Ben Gurion Airport will receive a major upgrade because tourism is increasing. Give praise and thanks.

Notes on Israel Prayer Points for January 2018
Jerusalem Trump made clear that the USA was “not taking a position on any final status issues, including the specific boundaries of the Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem.” Netanyahu: “we must all recognize and applaud the courage and moral clarity displayed by the President in affirming, against the wishes of so many other nations, the centrality of Jerusalem to Israel and the Jewish people.” The UN voted to adopt a resolution rejecting the US recognition. The UK was one of 128 countries that voted in favour of the motion and 9 voted against. 35 countries abstained. Those who voted “no” are: Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Togo and the US. “The vote is a victory for Palestine,” said Abbas’ spokesman. He also promised, “We will continue our efforts in the UN and at all international forums to put an end to this occupation and to establish our Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital.”
Peace Process Abbas has gone so far as to threaten to void past agreements brokered by Washington, which would be nearly all of those signed under the so-called “Oslo” peace process.
United Nations Reductions will also be made to the UN’s management and support functions. US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said that the “inefficiency and overspending” of the organization is wellknown, and she would not let “the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of.” The USA was the largest donor to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees, with a pledge of nearly $370 million as of 2016, covering a quarter of its running costs. UNRWA is exploited by the PA; its facilities, including schools, are used by Hamas and its school textbooks are anti-Israel.
Government “There will be no more political manoeuvres that will allow our capital to be torn apart. This is also Israel’s response to the shameful UN vote against Jerusalem.” Naftali Bennett, Education Minister.
New Terror alliance “The heart of the Palestinian cause, Jerusalem, is being targeted, so let us cooperate. This was the spirit of all the factions.” Hezbollah chief Nasrallah denies that Hezbollah are mediators in channelling financial support from Iran to the PA and said that Iran provides financial aid and weapons directly. Nasrallah also clearly stated that support for the “Intifada within Palestine” consists of weapons and financial support and that it has “nothing to do with Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem”.
Iran Protests are being caused by food prices, standard of living, poverty, unemployment, repression, corruption, involvement in Syria, military budget and billions wasted funding terrorism.
Iran’s influence in Syria is expanding after the defeat of ISIS. Israel has allegedly carried out strikes against suspected Iranian targets inside Syria in recent weeks. Syria, and especially Iran and Hezbollah have clarified their goal for the destruction of the Jewish state time and time again. It is vitally important to continue to pray for Israel’s safety and preparedness in the event of unanticipated developments or surprise attacks. This is especially true in the light of the vision of the Jeremiah in 1:13 “the boiling pot facing away from the north,” tilting over Israel and set to be overturned.
According to Ryan Mauro, an expert on Shiite religious dogma, Iran is actually trying to provoke an end-ofworld cataclysm by establishing military bases close to Israel’s Syrian border. Their leaders, he argues, are motivated by a desire to fulfil Shia prophecy of a showdown with the Jewish state that will prompt the coming of the ‘Mahdi’, an Islamic messianic figure. Since both Jews and Christians are also looking for their Messiah, the scene is surely being set for an apocalyptic conflagration. And it seems tragically ironic that, with the Western world having largely convinced itself there is no god, a global conflict over spiritual roots threatens us all. If this happens it will fulfil the end time prophecy of a global war.
The UK Sheep keep the grass neatly cut with their grazing while goats pull it out by the roots. In the same way, true disciples of Jesus should follow him closely and feed on the rich pasture He has provided including the Law and the Prophets. The goats, on the other hand, cut themselves off from the roots of their faith, as a result of which their pasture withers and dies. (PT)
