This month we will focus on some of the everlasting promises in scripture regarding Israel and relate them to some current events. God has called us to believe them, pray them and declare them. They will all be fulfilled! For the sake of space some verses have been abbreviated. Please look these up and declare them in full.
Aliyah, Cleansing and Spiritual Renewal
“I will sanctify my great name … and the nations shall know that I am the Lord when I am hallowed in you before their eyes. I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries and bring you into your own land. Then I will sprinkle clean water on you … I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you …” Ezekiel 36:16-38
225 members of the Bnei Menashe community from northeast India have immigrated to Israel, joining the 429 Bnei Menashe that have already made Aliyah this year. A 92-year-old Shoah survivor from New Jersey fulfilled his lifelong dream, making Aliyah with his daughter Lilly and her husband Bruce. They join Lilly and Bruce’s four children and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that already live in Israel.
The Minister of Immigrant absorption says successful Aliyah and absorption have always been and always will be the core of the Zionist enterprise and a guarantee of the growth of the Jewish state.
First God will bring them back to the land and then he will cleanse them and pour out His spirit upon them. Pray for the completion of Aliyah, the cleansing of what is at present a largely secular nation and the spiritual renewal.
Outpouring of the Holy Spirit and Salvation
“I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh …” Joel 2:28-32 and Acts 2:16-21.
What began in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost has gone round the world and will come back to be completed in Jerusalem before Jesus returns.
“Has God cast away His people? Certainly not! … If their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? … blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved … the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.” Romans 11
Pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Israel and the blindness to be removed so that they will be saved.
Church growth and strength
“He Himself is our peace who has made both one (Jew and Gentile) … so as to create in Himself one new man from the two … that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross …” Ephesians 2:14-18
The church in Israel is made up of Jew and Gentile, including Arabs and Russians and many other ethnic elements. There are around 200 Messianic congregations – more believers than ever before in the history of Israel. Pray for unity and harmony. Pray that many immature believers come to spiritual maturity very quickly and rise up to fulfil their destiny & calling. Pray for revival in all of the congregations and effective evangelism to the nation. Pray for financial provision for all the resources that are required. Most groups are small and struggle with finances. Pray for the church leaders who are often beset by ill health and other forms of spiritual attack.
Provision and Prosperity
“Behold I will send you grain and new wine and oil and you will be satisfied with them” Joel 2:19, 22-27
“The ploughman shall overtake the reaper …the mountains shall drip with sweet wine … I will plant them in their land and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them” Amos 9:13-15
“… all nations of the earth… shall fear for all the goodness and all the prosperity that I provide for it” Jeremiah 33:9
“For indeed I am for you and I will turn to you and you shall be tilled and sown. I will multiply men upon you … I will do better for you than at your beginnings…” Ezekiel 36:8-11
God has blessed the tiny nation of Israel in a supernatural way and causes her to be a blessing to the world with her technological innovations, quick response to global disasters and humanitarian aid, despite the hatred of many nations and condemnation from the global media. Pray for even more prosperity so that the nations will fear.
Position of other nations – particularly the UK
I will bless those who bless you and I will curse him who curses you …” Genesis 12:3
“All the nations will be gathered before Him and He will separate them one from another as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand and the goats on the left…” (Matthew 25:31-46)
Those on the right who have helped His brethren (the Jews) will inherit the Kingdom and be blessed. Those on the left who did not help them will be cursed and consigned to everlasting punishment.
Pray that the UK will be a sheep nation and not a goat nation. Britain’s three Jewish newspapers have united in warning of the “existential threat” to British Jewry that Jeremy Corbyn poses. The Labour Party continues to deal with allegations of anti-Semitism and refuses to adopt the full IHRA definition. Corbyn has vowed to recognise the “State of Palestine” if he becomes PM. Government leaders who favour Israel’s enemies and undermine the Jewish state are in danger of bringing unpleasant consequences on their country.
Judgment on enemies
“For behold when I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem I will also gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also divided up My land” Joel 3:1-2
“I have raised my hand in an oath that surely the nations that are around you shall bear their own shame” Ezek 36:7
“… nor will I let you hear the taunts of the nations any more …” Ezekiel 36:15
Israel has enemies on all sides – to the north with Hezbollah, Iran and Syria, to the west with Hamas in Gaza and to the east with Fatah and the PLO, to name but a few. Gazans continue to amass and protest at the border. Israel responds strongly and effectively. Pray that the IDF always makes the appropriate response and does not give the enemy or the media any occasion to condemn. God promises to deal with Israel’s enemies sooner or later. This partly depends on Israel herself turning to God rather than putting her trust in her own strength. Pray for this.
Protection, Defence and Peace
“I will remove far from you the northern army” Joel 2:20
“…The Lord will be a shelter for His people and the strength of the children of Israel” Joel 3:16
“Behold He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep” Psalm 121:4
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people … Psalm 125:2-3
“As a lion roars over his prey … so the Lord of hosts will come down to fight for Mt Zion … like the birds flying about so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem … He will also deliver it, passing over He will preserve it.” Isaiah 31:4-5
“I will make a covenant of peace with them and cause wild beasts to cease from the land … they shall be safe in their land … they shall no longer be a prey for the nations … they shall dwell safely and no one shall make them afraid… thus they shall know that I am with them and they, the house of Israel, are My people” Ezekiel 34:25-30
Praise God for the new Law that declares Israel as the nation-state of the Jews with Jerusalem as its capital. It gives the people right to self-determination and sovereignty and designates Hebrew as the official language. Praise also for their bold determination to continue to settle in Judea and Samaria.
